Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri Inaugurates Multi-Level Car Parking at Old NST Station, Kohima

Kohima, November 4, 2023: The city of Kohima, the capital of the state, has achieved a significant milestone with the inauguration of its first two Multi-Level Car Parking (MLCP) facilities, marking a substantial relief from parking issues for its residents. The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs and Petroleum & Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, at the old NST station located in the heart of Kohima as part of the Kohima Smart City Project.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Hardeep Singh Puri emphasized the importance of the Northeast and Nagaland in the national agenda, especially in the eyes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He expressed that the Northeast region holds a high priority, and Nagaland is of the utmost importance. Minister Singh noted that many of the Prime Minister’s schemes are oriented towards women-centric development, underlining the significance of empowering women in the country.

Minister Puri expressed his hope that the participation of women and daughters in the political process would increase in the country, as nations with women reservation policies tend to experience a boost in their GDP. He also anticipated that the women and sisters from the Northeast would take advantage of women’s reservations when it becomes operational after the next census and delimitation.

The Multi-Level Car Parking at the NST Bus Station is a crucial addition to Kohima’s infrastructure, and it comes with a history of planning and development. Initially sanctioned by the Ministry of Urban Development under the JNNURM Scheme in March 2009, the project faced funding constraints and was subsequently desanctioned in 2015. However, in 2018, it was entrusted to the Kohima Smart City Development Limited (KSCDL) for implementation under the Smart City Mission. KSCDL, as the Special Purpose Vehicle, approved and allocated 28.78 crore rupees for the completion of this vital project.

The newly inaugurated Multi-Level Car Parking facility is expected to significantly ease the parking issues in the city and enhance the overall urban development of Kohima.
