Government Issues Warning Against Fraudulent Calls: Caution Urged on Threats of Disconnection

Department of Telecommunications Advises Vigilance Amid Surge in Malicious Calls

In response to a surge in malicious calls threatening disconnection, the Government issues a stern advisory urging citizens not to share personal information during such calls. The Department of Telecommunications, the regulatory authority for the telecommunications sector, clarified that disconnection warnings are not conveyed through phone calls.

The public advisory, released yesterday, highlights that any call claiming impending disconnection should be treated as suspicious. The Department emphasized its role as the nodal agency for formulating policies and regulatory frameworks in the telecommunications sector.

The Communications Ministry further explained that fraudulent calls falsely asserting mobile number disconnection within two hours have been reported. These calls, labeled as deceptive attempts, pose a potential risk of exploitation. The Government’s warning serves as a call to vigilance, cautioning individuals against falling prey to such fraudulent schemes and emphasizing the importance of safeguarding personal information.
