Zunheboto District Golden Jubilee: A Celebration of Vision, Unity, and Progress

The Zunheboto District Golden Jubilee celebration on November 13th was a momentous occasion graced by G. Kaito Aye, Minister of PWD, Government of Nagaland, as the Chief Guest, and K. Tokugha Sukhalu, MLA and Advisor to the Government of Nagaland.

Advisor Sukhalu, in his speech, praised the visionaries behind the creation of Zunheboto District, highlighting their discussions with the government that led to the district’s establishment. He shared the historical significance of the event ground, which had once served as a punishment ground during the insurgency period.

Representing the Sumi community, Sukhalu emphasized the collective effort needed for Zunheboto’s development in infrastructure, education, and healthcare. He appealed to citizens to be open-minded and cooperative, expressing the legislators’ goal to make Zunheboto a model district.

Chief Guest G. Kaito Aye recounted the expansion of Nagaland into seven districts during the tenure of Chief Minister Hokishe Sema. He expressed gratitude to the pioneers of Zunheboto District, acknowledging their role in bringing brighter days to the Naga people.

Minister Aye encouraged a focus on agriculture, urging citizens not to rely solely on government-provided rice. He challenged them to recognize and reward the best harvesters. Aye also emphasized the importance of cooperation with the government for the district’s growth, discouraging greed for compensations.

Representatives from the Sumi Hoho and ADC Zunheboto also addressed the gathering, underscoring the need for infrastructure development, including a road to the newly bought cemetery. The program featured cultural presentations, showcasing the vibrant traditions of the Sumi community.

The event concluded with dedicatory prayers, the unveiling of the Jubilee stone by Minister Aye, and expressions of gratitude. The celebration stood as a testament to Zunheboto’s journey, highlighting the collaborative spirit essential for its continued progress.
