National Press Day Celebrations in Nagaland Focus on Media in the Age of AI

Empowering Citizens and Acknowledging Excellence

Nagaland, along with the rest of the nation, commemorated National Press Day with a spotlight on “Media in the Era of Artificial Intelligence, AI.” Kohima, Dimapur, and Mokokchung Press Clubs orchestrated various programs to mark the occasion.

Addressing the gathering at Kohima Press Club’s event held at the APO conference hall, Monalisa Changkija, Editor & Publisher of Nagaland Page, emphasized that in the era of AI, media’s role is to empower citizens, enabling them to comprehend and control technology for independent thinking. She urged against being swayed by those wielding economic, political, and cultural power, asserting the importance of independent thought and ethical action.

The event also saw the presentation of the KPC Impact Journalism Award 2023 to Moalemba Jamir. Additionally, four journalists received KPC-Nagaland Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board fellowship certificates.

At Dimapur Press Club, Sashiwapang, Additional Commissioner, CGST, Dimapur, highlighted the evolving nature of news, especially with the impact of social media and algorithms. He underscored the pivotal role social media plays in daily life, acknowledging its transformative effect on news dissemination. However, he cautioned about the potential lack of responsibility in fact-checking and analysis among social media users compared to traditional media outlets.

As the media fraternity in Nagaland observed National Press Day, the discussions delved into the challenges and opportunities presented by the integration of AI, emphasizing the need for responsible journalism in the digital age.
