Rural Grievance: Villages in Zunheboto District Demand Overdue Road Development

Zunheboto, 25th November 2023: Residents of 17 villages in Pughoboto, Sathaka, and Atoizu constituencies in Zunheboto district find themselves grappling with the prolonged absence of a proper road infrastructure since the inception of statehood. Today, a public forum representing villages under Section 3 of Showuba-Pangsha (East-West Corridor Road) organized a peaceful protest rally in Saptiqa town, the EAC headquarters under Zunheboto district. The rally aimed to express discontent over the persistent lack of development in these long-neglected areas.

The forum took the opportunity to submit a memorandum to the Deputy Chief Minister responsible for Planning Transformation & National Highways, highlighting the dire need for road development. The memorandum includes a detailed analysis of two proposed route options for the neglected road stretch. Urging the authorities to scrutinize the deplorable condition, the forum requested directives to the Regional Office of National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited in Kohima. The proposed route, Mukalimi – Shesulimi – Awohumi – Kichilimi – Tukunasami – Nunumi – Saptiqa – Ghukiye – Zungti – Zunheboto, is considered optimal for comprehensive community development, as stated by the forum.
