Dimapur Traffic Police Implements Innovative Display Card System for Efficient Auto Rickshaw Regulation

In an effort to enhance safety, regulate operations, and tackle various compliance issues, the Dimapur Traffic Police has introduced a Display Card System for auto rickshaws operating in the districts of Dimapur, Chumoukedima, and Niuland.

Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Kevithuto Sophie, inaugurated the initiative at the Commissioner of Police Office premises in Dimapur, emphasizing its significance in ensuring passenger safety, detecting stolen rickshaws, checking permits, and verifying proper licenses.

The Display Card System is designed to assist authorities in monitoring rickshaw drivers who operate without the required uniform, a mandatory regulation. This innovative system will also contribute to the overall road safety framework.

Under this new system, auto rickshaws with verified documents will be issued a photo identity display card containing essential details and contact numbers for Traffic or the police control room. The card, valid for two years, must be renewed thereafter. To facilitate passenger convenience, these photo identity cards will be affixed to the rear windshield.

Commending the Dimapur Traffic Police for various initiatives like installing solar blinkers, traffic assistance booths, and conducting road safety awareness programs, Commissioner Kevithuto Sophie expressed gratitude for their commitment to enhancing road safety.

DCP Traffic Meren Imchen revealed that, according to Regional Transport Authority approval, the Display Card System has been implemented, with a significant 55% reduction in road accidents across Dimapur, Chumoukedima, and Niuland combined compared to the previous year.

This strategic move is expected to bring about a positive transformation in the regulation and management of auto rickshaws, ultimately contributing to a safer and more organized traffic environment.
