Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh Advocates Increased Use of Hindi in Scientific Departments

During the 34th meeting of the Joint Hindi Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh emphasized the growing use of Hindi in government departments, including scientific institutions. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inspiring efforts to promote Hindi globally.

Dr Jitendra Singh stressed the importance of translating scientific topics into Hindi and regional languages to disseminate science and technology information widely. He highlighted the need for consulting subject experts proficient in both the scientific domain and relevant languages, involving the education department in the translation process.

The Union Minister urged flexibility in adapting language in scientific contexts rather than relying on literal translation. He directed department officials to collaborate regularly with the Hindi Consultative Committee to enhance Hindi’s official use.

Committee members, including MPs and Hindi scholars, offered suggestions on promoting Hindi. The meeting assessed the status of Hindi in various departments and discussed strategies to increase its usage. Dr Jitendra Singh sought recommendations for engaging experts in quality translation of scientific journals and documents.

He highlighted the introduction of MBBS course books in Hindi in Madhya Pradesh, making it the first state to offer medical education in the language. Dr Jitendra Singh stressed the role of languages in uniting people and encouraged efforts to preserve both mother tongue and Hindi. He emphasized that language proficiency, especially in Hindi, opens job opportunities, citing examples from the tourism and aviation sectors.
