Naga Peoples’ Front Opposes Simultaneous Lok Sabha and State Assembly Elections

The Naga Peoples’ Front (NPF) has raised strong objections to the concept of One Nation, One Election (ONOE) and the simultaneous election of Lok Sabha and State Assembly. Responding to the High-Level Committee on ONOE, the NPF emphasized that such a concept would undermine the spirit of the federal structure and democratic features of the country. The party argued that the creation of various states at different stages, including Nagaland, was based on diverse reasons and considerations, particularly addressing the multi-ethnic composition of the Indian Union. The NPF asserted that regional political parties play a crucial role in addressing local issues and protecting distinct identities, cultures, and traditions, which may be overlooked by national parties. Concerns were raised that implementing ONOE could potentially favor national parties over regional ones, leading to a dominance that contradicts the principles of federalism.
