India to Fence Entire Border with Myanmar, Ending Free Movement Regime between India and Myanmar, allowing unrestricted entry up to 16 km

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has announced the decision to fence the entire India-Myanmar border, similar to the Indo-Bangladesh border. Speaking at the passing out parade of the first batch of the newly-constituted Assam Police Commando battalions, Shah stated that the process of fencing along the Myanmar border would commence soon. Additionally, he mentioned that the Free Movement Regime (FMR) between India and Myanmar, allowing unrestricted entry up to 16 km, would be reexamined and stopped. The move comes amid India’s 1643-km long border with Myanmar in states like Mizoram, Nagaland, Manipur, and Arunachal Pradesh.
