Nagaland Cabinet Greenlights Constable Recruitment Across Seven Departments

The Nagaland Cabinet, led by Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton, has given its nod for the recruitment of constables in seven key departments, including Nagaland Police, Prisons, Forests, Home Guards, Fire and Emergency Services, Lokayukta, Home Guards, and Civil Defence. Deputy CM Patton shared this development during a media briefing at the Police Headquarters in Kohima today.

The constable recruitment process for the mentioned departments will be overseen by the Department Recruitment Board (DRB), with representation from Personnel and Administrative Reforms (P&AR). Patton emphasized that the Cabinet has approved a three-year age relaxation, allowing individuals up to 38 years to apply for the constable positions, considering the absence of recruitment in the past 3-4 years.

In response to the Indian Government’s decision to seal the Indo-Myanmar Border for restricting the Free Movement Regime (FMR), Patton revealed that the state government plans to convene with northeastern states sharing the Indo-Myanmar border and approach the central government. However, he clarified that the schedule for these discussions has not been finalized.

Director General of Police (DGP) Rupin Sharma stated that Nagaland would express its views on managing the border and the Free Movement Regime during the upcoming meetings with the northeastern states. He highlighted the state’s commitment to enhancing border regulation, prioritizing national security, and considering the sentiments of the people residing along the border.
