In a commanding victory, Nagaland emerged triumphant against Arunachal in the Men’s U-23 category of the COL. C.K Nayudu Trophy 2023-24. Opting to field first, Nagaland showcased a robust performance in their 1st innings, amassing 260 runs. Zipa Pohena’s splendid maiden century with 108 runs laid a strong foundation, supported by contributions from Sujal (34 runs), Hem (27 runs), and Tohuka (25 runs). Arunachal’s bowlers Amarjeet Sharma (4 wickets), Leki Tsering (3 wickets), and T Muri (2 wickets) made notable efforts.
Arunachal struggled in their 1st innings, managing only 88 runs, with Raja (5 wickets) and Hem (2 wickets) leading Nagaland’s impressive bowling performance. In their 2nd innings, Nagaland scored 218 runs, with Afzal (53 runs), Hem (50 runs), Sujal (34 runs), and Mughavi (27 runs) contributing significantly. Arunachal’s Mibom (5 wickets), T Muri (3 wickets), and Amarjeet (2 wickets) showed resilience in bowling.
Despite the opportunity for a follow-on, Nagaland chose to bat again, securing a comprehensive win. Arunachal faced another defeat, being bowled out for 44 runs in their 2nd innings. Devansh Gupta (14 runs) and T Muri (11 runs) were the only notable contributors. Neizekho (4 wickets), Raja (3 wickets), Odilemba (2 wickets), and Hem (1 wicket) showcased Nagaland’s bowling prowess.
Nagaland’s U-23 team is set to face Manipur at Sovima Cricket Ground from January 28th to 31st, 2024.
