Tragic Coal Mine Accident Claims 6 Lives, Injures 4 in Ruchayan Village, Wokha District

A devastating incident unfolded at a coal mine in Ruchayan, situated in the Bhandari sub-division of Wokha district, claiming the lives of six laborers and leaving four others injured. The tragedy struck yesterday, with reports indicating that the accident occurred around 01:00 PM.

According to sources, a mechanical failure within the rat-hole mining operation triggered a blast, subsequently leading to a landslide that engulfed the area. All the victims involved in the mishap are said to be from Sonapur in Sarupathar, Assam.

Additional SP Wokha, Soriso K. Quinker, disclosed that the mine had a workforce of ten laborers at the time of the incident. Following the tragedy, the injured workers were expeditiously transported to a hospital in Dimapur for urgent medical attention.

In response to the calamity, the State Disaster Response Force swiftly mobilized alongside medical teams to the site of the accident, as confirmed by Additional SP Wokha.

The untimely loss of lives and the injury of others in this coal mine accident cast a somber shadow over Ruchayan village and the wider Wokha district. As investigations into the incident unfold, authorities are expected to take necessary measures to prevent such tragedies in the future, ensuring the safety and well-being of all those engaged in mining activities.
