RPP Calls for Prayer Appeal Amidst Northeast Free Movement Regime- FMR Dispute

The Rising People’s Party (RPP) of Nagaland has issued a fervent prayer appeal in response to the contentious decision by the central government to abolish the Free Movement Regime (FMR) and install security fencing along the 1600 km long international corridor in the Northeast region.

The abrupt move by the government has sent shockwaves through the tribal communities of Nagaland, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, and Manipur, deeply wounded by what they perceive as an erasure of their history and shared past. The historical wounds inflicted by the British division of territories in the early 20th Century, particularly the loss of ethnic identities of Nagas and Mizo-Chins to Burma, still resonate in the collective memory of the affected peoples.

The RPP expresses profound concern over the potential ramifications of the government’s decision, fearing it may disrupt the fragile peace in the region and exacerbate existing ethnic conflicts. The party accuses the government of pursuing a confrontational policy instead of seeking lasting solutions in the Northeast.

The RPP emphasizes the importance of unity among the Nagas and Zo peoples in addressing the issue at hand, calling upon all members of the community and churches to join in fervent prayer. The party appeals to the Indian leadership to reconsider their decision with compassion and to acknowledge the shared history and identity of the affected peoples.

As a symbol of solidarity and collective action, the Rising People’s Party urges continuous prayers for wisdom to prevail among Indian leaders and for the unity of the Nagas and Zo-Kuki-Chin family in safeguarding their existence and shared heritage.
