Election Commission Announces Rajya Sabha Elections in 15 States

Today, the Election Commission unveiled plans for elections to 56 seats of the Rajya Sabha across 15 states. According to the announcement, notification for polling will be issued on February 8th, with the last date for filing nomination papers set for February 15th. The polling itself is scheduled for February 27th.

A breakdown of the seats reveals that Uttar Pradesh will witness elections for ten seats, while Maharashtra and Bihar will see six seats each up for grabs. Additionally, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh will have five seats each, followed by four seats each in Gujarat and Karnataka. Furthermore, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan, and Odisha will have three seats each contested, and Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh will each have one seat in the race.

Among those completing their terms in April are several notable figures, including Union Ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw, Bhupender Yadav, Parshottam Rupala, Mansukh Mandaviya, Dharmendra Pradhan, Narayan Rane, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, L Murugan, and V Muraleedharan. Additionally, BJP president Jagat Prakash Nadda and other Members of Parliament are also poised to conclude their terms.
