Dimapur Traffic Police Issues Crucial Road Safety Advisories Amid Rising Accidents

In response to the alarming rise in negligent and reckless driving leading to vehicular accidents and fatalities, the Dimapur Traffic Police has issued a series of crucial advisories aimed at enhancing road safety measures.

Effective immediately, all commercial and heavy vehicles are required to install retro reflective tapes on their exteriors, as per Rules 104 to 104(E) of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules. Additionally, it is mandated that lighting systems be fully functional at all times, with vehicles also carrying reflective materials and safety triangles to be utilized in case of breakdowns or emergencies.

Furthermore, vehicle owners are strongly urged not to leave their vehicles unattended along highways or roads, particularly during nighttime, to prevent potential hazards to other motorists. In instances of breakdowns or emergencies after dark, the use of hazard lights and reflective triangles is essential to warn oncoming traffic.

Pedestrians are advised against crossing highways or roads from undesignated points to mitigate the risk of accidents. The wearing of seatbelts is made compulsory for all passengers in vehicles equipped with seatbelts, with penalties outlined under section 194(B) of the Motor Vehicle Act for non-compliance.

The use of mobile phones while driving is deemed hazardous and illegal, with offenders subject to penalties under section 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act. Additionally, the advisory emphasizes strict enforcement of speed limits, with violations punishable under section 183 of the Motor Vehicle Act, as excessive speed remains a leading cause of motor accidents.

The Dimapur Traffic Police urges all motorists and pedestrians to adhere strictly to these advisories to ensure the safety and well-being of all road users. Together, let us prioritize responsible driving practices and contribute towards building safer road environments for everyone.
