Heartwarming Tale : Elderly Man’s Journey to Naga Wrestling Meet

In a touching display of dedication, Mamho Chakhrüno, a 90-year-old resident of Chedema village, embarked on a heartfelt journey to witness the Northern Angami wrestling meet at Ziekezou Village Ground in Kohima. Carrying his cherished homemade eatables in a traditional basket, Chakhrüno’s pilgrimage resonated deeply with all who witnessed it.

Upon his arrival, the gate volunteer’s gesture of granting him complimentary entry warmed the hearts of onlookers. But it was a stranger’s act of compassion that truly moved everyone: purchasing a ₹2000 ticket for Chakhrüno, affirming the power of kindness and community spirit.

Chakhrüno’s presence at the wrestling meet symbolized the profound love and connection the Tenyimi tribes hold for Naga wrestling, bridging generations with its timeless appeal. In the midst of the event’s excitement, it was a poignant reminder of the unbreakable bonds forged by tradition and shared heritage.

Naga wrestling, deeply ingrained in the cultural fabric of the Chakhesang and Angami tribes, evokes a sense of pride and belonging among participants. As Chakhrüno and others continue to embrace the sport, they uphold the cherished legacy of Naga traditions, embodying the enduring spirit of their ancestors.
