One-Day Training Program on “Safe and Judicious Use of Pesticides” Held at KVK Dimapur

On February 17, 2024, HIL(India) Ltd, in collaboration with KVK Dimapur, ICAR Nagaland Centre, organized a one-day on-campus awareness and training program on the “Safe and Judicious Use of Pesticides” at the KVK Dimapur campus. The event aimed to educate farmers on responsible pesticide usage practices.

During the program, Mr. James Swu, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Medziphema, highlighted the significance of judicious pesticide use. He urged farmers to apply the practical knowledge gained from the training in their agricultural practices, emphasizing the importance of sustainability and environmental stewardship.

Dr. H. Kalita, Head of the Regional Centre at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, emphasized the importance of using pesticides correctly. He provided insights into the proper dosage, handling, and timing of pesticide application. Dr. Kalita also educated farmers on how to identify pesticides based on color markings on labels, ensuring safe and effective usage.

Bodevi Shuya, District Agriculture Officer from Chumukidema, cautioned farmers against the overuse of pesticides due to its adverse effects on human health and the environment. She stressed the need for responsible pesticide management practices to mitigate potential risks and safeguard agricultural sustainability.

The training program saw active participation from 290 farmers representing various blocks and villages of Chumukidema district, Nagaland. Through such initiatives, stakeholders aim to enhance farmers’ knowledge and promote sustainable agricultural practices for a healthier and greener future.
