The United States Geological Survey reported the earthquake’s magnitude at 7.4, with its epicenter located 18 kilometers south of Taiwan’s Hualien City at a depth of 34.8 kilometers. According to Wu Chien Fu, the director of Taipei’s Seismology Center, the earthquake was felt across Taiwan and offshore islands, marking the strongest tremor in the region in 25 years.

In the aftermath of the earthquake, authorities reported that dozens of people remained trapped in collapsed buildings, highlighting the urgent need for rescue and relief efforts in affected areas.
