Dimapur Area Ao Baptist Arogo Pastors Fellowship Opposes Relaxation of NLTP Act

On April 8, 2024, the Dimapur Area Ao Baptist Arogo Pastors Fellowship voiced its staunch opposition to any relaxation of the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, 1989, within Dimapur or any part of Nagaland. The fellowship emphasized that such a move would be a grave mistake, further deteriorating the societal fabric.

In a letter addressed to the Nagaland Chief Minister, the pastors fellowship underscored the importance of government agencies vigorously enforcing the law to control the situation and ensure the progression of society rather than its degradation. They urged the state government to address any loopholes in the Act and reinforce its implementation.

The fellowship warned that relaxing the enforcement of the NLTP Act would essentially leave one door open, leading to unrestricted access to alcohol throughout Nagaland. They emphasized that no considerations, whether monetary gains, revenue, business purposes, or employment opportunities, should take precedence over the existing Act, which aims to combat the harms caused by alcohol consumption.

Highlighting the efforts made by civil societies, including the Nagaland Baptist Church Council, to advocate for laws controlling alcohol use in the state, the fellowship stressed the importance of safeguarding future generations of Naga society from the detrimental effects of alcohol.

This stance reflects the firm commitment of the Dimapur Area Ao Baptist Arogo Pastors Fellowship to uphold the values and well-being of the community, urging policymakers to prioritize the welfare of citizens over other considerations.
