DC Zunheboto Bans Sale of Illegal Lotteries and Games, Warns of Severe Penalties

DC Zunheboto Prohibits Sale of Illegal Lottery and Games

31st May, 2024: Deputy Commissioner of Zunheboto, Rahul Bhanudas Mali, has declared the sale of illegal lotteries or games such as Shillong Teer, Nagaland Arrow, and Raja Rani as completely illegal, emphasizing that these activities contravene the Lottery (Regulation) Act, 1998.

In his statement, the Deputy Commissioner warned that any person acting as an agent, selling, distributing, or purchasing tickets for such lotteries will face severe consequences. Offenders could be subjected to rigorous imprisonment for up to two years, a fine, or both. The offence will be treated as cognizable and non-bailable.

To enforce this directive, the DC has instructed the Zunheboto Chamber of Commerce & Industries to ensure all shopkeepers cease these activities. Additionally, the Zunheboto Town Council and head DBs have been tasked with inspecting shops for the sale of illegal lotteries and submitting monthly reports to the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
