BJP Retains Power in Arunachal Pradesh, While Sikkim Krantikari Morcha Sweeps Sikkim Assembly Elections

June 2, 2024: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured another term in Arunachal Pradesh, while the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) has made a clean sweep in Sikkim.

In Arunachal Pradesh, the BJP had already won 10 seats unopposed in the state assembly elections, including seats held by prominent leaders such as Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein. In today’s results for the remaining 50 seats, the BJP won 36 seats. The National People’s Party secured five seats, the Nationalist Congress Party and Independents won three seats each, the People’s Party of Arunachal took two seats, and the Indian National Congress won one seat.

In Sikkim, the SKM emerged victorious in 31 out of the 32 seats, while the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) managed to win only one seat. The incumbent Chief Minister and SKM President Prem Singh Tamang won from both the Rhenock and Soreng Chakung constituencies. The terms for the assemblies of both states ended today.
