Rio’s Government Betrays ENPO Twice, Says Rising People’s Party

The NDPP/BJP coalition has once again undermined the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO), betraying them by orchestrating the filing of NDPP/BJP nominations in various ULBs of eastern Nagaland. This follows the earlier scuttling of the Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT) issue.

The betrayal began when the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) directed the state government to provide its opinion on the FNT Draft Working Paper (DWP) by December 31, 2023. According to an ENPO press release in April 2024, the state government failed to respond. In response, the enraged ENPO exposed CM Neiphiu Rio’s government’s tactics through press statements and abstained from the Lok Sabha polls in protest.

This latest move by Rio’s government is seen as retribution following the NDPP/BJP coalition’s humiliation by Mr. Supongmeren Jamir’s victory. It is evident that Mr. Rio, with the support of NDPP president Chingwang Konyak, has betrayed the ENPO people twice. As a former ENPO talk team member, Mr. Konyak could have prevented the NDPP candidates from filing their nominations but chose not to.

The Rising People’s Party condemns the divide and rule tactics of the NDPP-BJP coalition, which have humiliated the ENPO and damaged its credibility among the Naga people.
