Nagaland Police Busts Major Drug Trafficking Nexus Spanning Multiple States

In a significant operation, Nagaland Police uncovered a vast drug trafficking network operating across Nagaland, Manipur, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Punjab, and potentially other states. An arrest in Sechu Zubza under Kohima District on November 13 led to the apprehension of two traffickers from Manipur carrying a significant quantity of heroin. Upon interrogation, the accused is suspected to have trafficked around 60 kgs of heroin valued at approximately 400 crores rupees within a year.

Director General of Police (DGP) Nagaland, Rupin Sharma, revealed in a press conference held at Police Headquarters Kohima that the police have successfully apprehended 12 individuals associated with this network, hailing from Nagaland, Manipur, and Assam. Of the 12 accused arrested, four are from the state. The case is still under investigation, and the DGP indicated the involvement of many others in the network, with potential links to West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh.

Since January 1, 2023, a total of 318 cases related to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act have been registered, leading to the arrest of 456 individuals. Notably, 49 police personnel are implicated in drug-related cases, resulting in the dismissal of eight individuals, while the rest are undergoing departmental inquiries. The DGP highlighted that three state government servants were also arrested in drug cases last week and are currently in judicial custody.
