CSOs Warn of Escalated Bandh in Wokha Without Positive Response from Authorities

Civil society organizations (CSOs) in Wokha district, along with the Joint Action Committee (JAC) comprising various bodies of Wokha village, have issued a stern warning stating that the indefinite bandh imposed on the National Highway passing through Wokha district will escalate if authorities fail to provide a positive response by 6 pm tomorrow.

Following a district-wide meeting today, the apex organizations and JAC jointly declared their decision, reiterating their stance on the ongoing impasse. They emphasized that if no constructive response is received by the stipulated time, the bandh will intensify, extending the lockdown to the offices of the Wokha Deputy Commissioner and Wokha SDO, as well as imposing restrictions on all vehicular movement and commercial activities in the district.

The Joint Action Committee, formed by diverse entities in Wokha village, initiated the indefinite bandh effective today, subsequent to the expiration of a 5-day ultimatum issued to the Wokha Deputy Commissioner on February 1st. The ultimatum demanded the resumption of construction works along NH-2, spanning from 72.40 kilometers to 83.00 kilometers in Wokha.

Notable groups participating in the collective effort include Lotha Hoho, Lotha Eloe Hoho, Lotha Students’ Union, Wokha District Village Council Chairmen Association, Wokha Town Colonies’ Chairmen Union, and All Commercial Vehicle Association, Wokha.

The impending escalation underscores the gravity of the situation, as stakeholders stand united in their resolve to address crucial infrastructural concerns affecting the district’s development.
