Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Announces State Cabinet Reshuffle by August 15

At Least Three New Faces to Join Cabinet Ahead of 2026 Assembly Elections

June 6th, 2024: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Thursday that a State Cabinet reshuffle will take place by August 15. The reshuffle aims to form a new team for the 2026 assembly elections, with at least three new faces expected to be included.

Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, CM Sarma stated that he has yet to discuss the reshuffle with central leadership and will consider the process a month after the flood situation in the state is resolved.

“We will change our ministry and give it a new look. We need to prepare the team for the 2026 elections that will work with new energy,” said CM Sarma.

The Chief Minister also mentioned that the reshuffle follows state minister Parimal Suklabaidya’s victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, indicating a shift towards fresh leadership within the state cabinet.
