ENWO Reaffirms No Child From Eastern Nagaland Should Be Sent for Domestic Help Except for Educational Purposes”
Eastern Nagaland Women Organization (ENWO) has reinforced its stance that children from Eastern Nagaland should only be sent for domestic assistance when it serves educational purposes, as per ENWO’s guidelines. The organization’s decision follows reported incidents of physical abuse against Eastern Naga children in households where they were employed as domestic helpers. ENWO has cautioned homeowners against employing Eastern Naga children for domestic work under the pretext of providing education. To safeguard these children from child labor, exploitation, and harm, ENWO has mandated that all eastern federating units and village councils strictly adhere to their guidelines. These guidelines include stipulations that prohibit parents from sending their children to other families outside their village without the village council’s consent. Parents must inform and register with the tribal unit and the host family where the child is expected to reside. Failure to comply with these regulations will result in ENWO initiating legal action against the offenders under the Child Labour Act. Furthermore, if a child is subjected to abuse by their employers, ENWO will take strong measures against the perpetrators, in addition to legal action.
