Election Commission of India Reports Record 97 Crore Registered Electors for Upcoming General Elections

The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced that nearly 97 crore electors have been registered across the country ahead of the forthcoming general elections. Described as the world’s largest electorate registration, this figure represents a six percent increase from the 2019 voter count.

The ECI highlighted that the majority of registered voters belong to women, youth, and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) categories. Notably, female voter registration has exceeded that of male voters during the month-long intensive Special Summary Revision 2024. Additionally, over two crore young electors between the ages of 18 to 29 years have been added to the commission’s data.

In an official statement, the Commission emphasized that eligible unregistered citizens still have the opportunity to enroll as voters under the continuous updation of electoral rolls.

The surge in voter registration underscores the active participation and engagement of citizens in the democratic process, setting the stage for a robust electoral exercise in the upcoming general elections.
